You can’t bulk forever and when it eventually becomes time to start the inevitable cutting phase you will probably want a decent fat-burning supplement to give you that little bit extra. Here is a list of the top ten fat-burners out there on the market today. For best prices, check out our fat burners deals page.
The following fat burners are among the best around, they are all from well-known and established supplement companies with a great reputation. For each product, we will look at the company, the claims, the ingredients, and then give a short review.
Lipodrene is a fat burner from Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals and is purported to be the number one selling weight loss product in America that contains Ephedra. Now that Ephedrine is unavailable as a supplement, Ephedra (it’s less powerful cousin) is one of the most potent fat-burning ingredients out there. Particularly when it is combined with Caffeine – which it is here.
So other than Ephedra and Caffeine what else is contained? Well, we have Senegalia Berlandieri extract which has a stimulatory effect due to containing alkaloids that can create amphetamines. Another ingredient is Yohimbine which also has a stimulatory effect and has been shown to be a decent fat burner.
All in all, Lipodrene has some absolutely excellent ingredients. Caffeine, Green Tea Extract, Yohimbine, and Senegalia Berlandieri extract will all increase metabolism, reduce appetite, and help oxidize fat. You are advised to take 1-2 tablets in the morning, and one after lunch.
Due to the potency of the ingredients you can expect there to be some side effects, jitters, sweating, high body temperature (this is thermogenesis and is responsible for the raised metabolism), and possibly even nausea. If you are experiencing the last one then you might want to consider lowering the dose per day from 3 to 1.
Synadrene is another fat burning supplement sold by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals. Synadrene has some similar ingredients to Lipodrene but also has a lot of different ones. Each capsule contains 100mg of caffeine which is a lot (particularly if you are quite light on the scales). Synadrene also contains a neurological stimulant 1,3-Dimethylamylamine also known as DMAA.
This ingredient is very similar to amphetamines and when combined with caffeine will be an incredibly effective metabolism raiser and fat burner. Yohimbine is also present as is ALA which might help with weight loss.
There is a high amount of Niacin in Synadrene which could be to help increase blood flow, or may be there to increase GH (one study found that high Niacin doses massively increased GH). It could also be there as an appetite suppressant, though the Caffeine that is present will be perfectly adequate.
USP Labs is a very well known supplement company that offers a huge range of supplements, their fat burner is known as Epi BURN Pro. This product promises to boost energy and stamina, reduce appetite, improve performance in the gym, help increase fat loss, and control cortisol.
The caffeine that is present in EpiBURN Pro would be responsible for all of these benefits bar the cortisol control. Luckily it also contains Ashwagandha which has been scientifically proven to lower cortisol in stressed individuals. Lowering cortisol is important because high cortisol levels can lead to weight gain, bad sleep, and low testosterone levels.
Yohimbe is also present, but really the caffeine content is what’s king here. Like Synadrene EpiBURN Pro contains 100mg of caffeine per serving. As a fat burner it is pretty standard, but the addition of cortisol lowering Ashwagandha really makes EpiBURN Pro stand out from the crowd.
On first viewing IGNIT3 from Olympus Labs looks completely unremarkable, it has Yohimbe, Caffeine, and Ginger root extract (plus a few others). What makes IGNIT3 stand out though is the crazy levels of caffeine that are present within each serving. The previous fat burners we have looked at contain around 100mg of caffeine in a serving, well IGNIT3 contains three times that amount.
This may seem extreme, and let’s be clear if you have high blood pressure you might want to avoid it. However in almost any study on the benefits of caffeine they have used a similar serving. Normally 4-6mg/kg of bodyweight is seen as a high amount and so a 70kg person would find this very effective.
What’s also good is that the heavier people (obese people or bodybuilders) will find this as effective as a very lean person (50-70kg) would find the other fat burners. IGNIT3 will not be effective long term as your tolerance will build fast to this level of caffeine, but you can cycle this and get some truly amazing results!
Another fat burner that contains DMAA. Hydroxy Elite is basically a copycat product of OxyELITE Pro that was sold by USP Labs. Hydroxy Elite is made by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals which also makes Lipodrene, and Synedrine.
It contains 100mg of caffeine but the real ingredient here is DMAA. Any supplement containing this is going to be very popular with bodybuilders and will probably be looked at by the FDA before too long. A decent product which will keep anyone who enjoyed OxyELITE Pro very happy.
Transparent Labs are really a breath of fresh air in the supplement industry, when they put a supplement up for sale they tell you everything you need to know about each ingredient and link to the relevant studies. This is great because you can critically analyze their product on the spot.
The fat burner contains 120mg of Caffeine, 400mg of Green Tea Extract, and 50mg of Synephrine. This last ingredient is very similar in nature to Epinephrine, obviously it isn’t as powerful (otherwise it would probably be banned too) but combined with caffeine it is particularly effective at fat burning.
Cellucor is a very well established player in the supplement world, their products (such as Cellucor C4, Cellucor C4 ULTIMATE) are always excellent with some of the best-designed packaging out there. Cellucor sell both powdered and capsule versions of their fat burner, we’ll look at the powder but they’re pretty interchangeable except that the powder contains 10 calories worth of carbohydrates (for flavor).
As a product Cellucor Super HD has some very nice ingredients. There’s 160mg of caffeine per scoop, Green tea, Yohimbe, Capsicum, the usual stuff. It’s nice that you can choose between powder and capsule, and many people will probably go for the powder as a really decent pre-workout that also has fat burning properties.
Evlution Nutrition’s fat burning supplement “Trans4orm” is a ridiculously cool looking product that also delivers excellent results. It contains 175mg of caffeine per serving, 25mg of Theacrine (an alkaloid similar to caffeine), 500mg of Green Tea Extract, and 500mg of L-Tyrosine that could really help improve focus – even if it has no effect on fat loss.
Anyone who has spent any time on bodybuilding.com will know who Jim Stoppani is, he is one of the most knowledgeable and experienced contributors and now runs his own (very successful) supplement company.
So let’s take a look at this fat burner then, the first thing you notice is that Jim has gone for a decent amount of Caffeine per serving (200mg), he’s also got the standard 500mg of Green Tea Extract, 50mg of Capsaicin (the part of chillies that leads to you drowning yourself in water) which is a fantastic way to boost your metabolism, and 20mg of Synephrine.
There are enough potent ingredients here to get you an excellent fat burner here, and the information available about each one on his website is incredibly thorough. Definitely worth your money.
Muscle Tech make two very similar fat-burning supplements, Hydroxycut Elite and Hydroxycut Next Gen. Whilst the Elite contains slightly more caffeine the Next Generation contains more varied ingredients making it a more well-rounded product.
Next Gen still contains an absolute tonne of caffeine per serving though, there’s 50mg of pure caffeine and then there’s also 200mg of Green Coffee Bean Extract, add in the Cocoa and you’re looking at 250mg of caffeine per serving. This is less than the 300mg of Elite, but it’s still very high for a fat burner.
They have added Blue Skullcap which can help lower anxiety and help with troubled sleeping, this is a really nice touch. There are some similar ingredients to this that would take too long to delve into. Basically Next Gen contains enough caffeine to get some excellent results whilst also paying attention to improving mood and lowering stress. A very nice supplement here.
