The popular category of Intra workouts supplements have become extremely popular over the last 5 years and will continue to grow as the research and the variety of products continue to expand. In this review, we will look at ten of the best intra-workout supplements that are on the market today, and find out what makes each product unique.

Best 10 Intra Workout Supplements for 2020 – Full List

1. Scivation Xtend

Scivation Xtend

Scivation is an American supplement company whose main selling point is the amount of time and money they spend on researching their products – they have had 2 studies find benefits to their product. Xtend is their first Intra-workout supplement (in fact it was one of the first ever intra-workouts). They have been selling it now for 10 years, making it older than most supplement companies!

The product offers the following benefits: Fat burning, muscle recovery, and the replenishment of electrolytes. It contains 7g of BCAAs (Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine) per serving in the standard 2:1:1 ratio (so 3.5g Leucine, and 1.75g of Isoleucine and Valine). There is also 2.5g of Glutamine, and 1g of Citrulline Malate.

With zero calories and a variety of well reviewed flavors, Scivation has won 5 awards from Bodybuilding.com for their product.

2. MTS Machine Fuel

MTS Machine Fuel

Marc Lobliner is the CEO of MTS Nutrition, but before that he used to run Scivation (the company we just looked at). Whilst there, he was the person who decided that intra-workouts were a good idea. MTS may not be around as long as Scivation, but they are headed by the godfather of intra-workouts.

The main benefits that MTS Machine Fuel offers are enhanced recovery, a reduction in muscle breakdown, and fast delivery of amino acids to muscle (compared to whey protein). Machine fuel contains 6g of BCAAs (Leucine 3g, Isoleucine & Valine 1.5g each) 1g of Taurine, and 500mg of Agmatine Sulfate. This last ingredient is great for enhancing your pump during a session. There are 0 calories in Machine fuel, and no proprietary blends either (the company explains this by saying that proprietary blends are “stupid”).

3. GAT JetFuse NOX

GAT JetFuse NOX

German American Technologies are consistently producing supplements that make our top ten lists, and JetFuse is another one. The company has been in business for 20 years and has some big names in the biz signed to them (Big Ramy the Egyptian Bodybuilding sensation is one of their stars).

JetFuse Nox offers a long-lasting pump, different types of creatine, and recovery as their stand out benefits. Technically JetFuse is labeled as a pre-workout, but due to the low caffeine content, it should work fine as an intra.

The ingredients list is filled with the typical BCAAs, plus a large amount of EAAs (Arginine, Taurine, Citrulline Malate, Glutamine). There is also Green Tea (the caffeine source) and creatine. Sadly they don’t give us any measurements for their ingredients as they mix them into proprietary blends.

JetFuse is a great choice for an intra-workout as it is packed full of very useful ingredients, is excellent value for money and tastes amazing.

4. Kaged Muscle In-Kaged

Kaged Muscle: In-Kaged

As we’ve mentioned before, Kaged Muscle is run by Kris Gethin one of the most well-known fitness personalities on Bodybuilding.com. His intra-workout (known as In-Kaged) has been created with the attention to detail that Kris is famous for. The product offers increased endurance, focus, and energy.

The ingredients list is completely transparent as usual, with 5g of BCAAs (2:1:1 ratio), 3g of Citrulline, 1.6g of Beta-Alanine, Taurine (1g), Tyrosine (500mg), and Caffeine (124mg). There’s also 500mg of Coconut water powder to increase hydration – which is a nice touch.

The fact that this supplement is also geared towards increasing focus and improving cognition makes it stand out, the very high dose of Citrulline is also pretty interesting as Kris claims that most supplement brands under-dose it.

5. Post JYM Active Matrix

Post JYM Active Matrix

Another Bodybuilding.com legend. We’ve covered a lot of Jim Stoppani’s supplements before and we’ve always been impressed. The guy has a doctorate and puts it to good use! This is technically a post-workout supplement, but again it is versatile enough to make an excellent intra-workout. The main benefits that Post JYM Active Matrix offers are Recovery (removes lactic acid), increased growth, and the ability to refuel muscles.

Post JYM contains 6g of BCAAs in the standard 2:1:1 ratio, with 2g of creatine, 2g of Beta-Alanine, 3g of Glutamine, 1.5g of Betaine, 1g of Taurine, and 5g of BioPerine. The inclusion of Betaine and BioPerine make this product stand out.

Betaine which has been shown to increase power, and led to a 20% increase in bench press power. BioPerine (Black Pepper Extract) which increases absorption of other ingredients.

6. Controlled Labs Purple Wraath

Controlled Labs: Purple Wraath

Controlled Labs are definitely innovative – they are currently selling a range of supplements for gamers! They also have Kane Sumabat as their resident trainer, who may be one of the most well-written fitness personalities out there!

Their intra-workout supplement is called Purple Wraath and it offers the following benefits: It’s fast absorbing, improves performance, endurance, focus, stamina, and can help with recovery. Purple Wraath contains Niacin (for an excellent pump), BCAAs and EAAs (no measurements were given) Beta Alanine, Citrulline Malate, Betaine, and Ginger.

The stand-out ingredient here has to be Ginger which is supposed to aid absorption but isn’t used by any other intra-workout supp. Ginger is also considered to be a Nootropic by some. The flavor of some of the mixes is also unreal (Cotton Candy in particular).

7. Gaspari Nutrition Amino Last

Gaspari Nutrition: Amino Last

Gaspari Nutrition has been around forever (since 1998 according to their website), their supplements are sold in over 50 countries and they have a terrific reputation for quality. Amino Last is exactly what it says it is, an amino acid supplement. The purported benefits are improved recovery and increased endurance during sessions. Each serving contains 5g of BCAAs, Leucine 2.5g, Isoleucine 1.25g and Valine 1.25g, whilst also containing 5g of Essential Amino Acids.

Amino Last contains L-Ornithine-l-aspartate which is supposed to reduce ammonia and improve focus. It is also supposed to stimulate protein synthesis in muscle … Which is probably the best benefit you could ask for.

8. Beast Sports Nutrition Aminolytes

Beast Sports Nutrition: Amino Lytes

Beast Sports Nutrition was founded in 1995 and in 2012 won Bodybuilding.com’s Breakout Brand of the Year Award. Their intra-workout product is called Amino Lytes and is very similar to Gaspari Nutrition’s offering in that it is 5g of BCAAs and 5g of EAAs. What sets Amino Lytes apart here is that they don’t use the 2:1:1 ratio for Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine but instead use a 5:1:4 ratios.

This works out as 2.5g of Leucine, 500mg of Isoleucine and 2g of Valine. The supplement promises to recharge muscle, and replenish electrolytes, but whether the altered ratio helps with this remains to be seen. Definitely worth giving it a go though.

9. Ronnie Coleman Amino-Tone

Ronnie Coleman: Amino-Tone

If you’ve been into bodybuilding at all then you have probably heard of Ronnie Coleman, if you haven’t then he’s the guy who coined the phrase “light weight” whilst deadlifting 362kg. Ronnie has won eight Mr. Olympia titles, and with 26 IFBB (a record) he is generally regarded as one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time.

What’s really special about the Ronnie Coleman supplement line is that it is completely run by Ronnie and his associates. He’s not just a name attached to the company, he really cares about it and has traveled the world promoting it. The supplement that they have for intra-workouts is called Amino-Tone and it promises Improved endurance, improved hydration, and fat loss support.

There are 5g of BCAAs in each serving, also Taurine, Alanine, Raspberry ketones, and AstraGin (which is supposed to help absorption and increase ATP production). The Hydration complex is pretty decent – containing Potassium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, and Magnesium Citrate which are common electrolytes.

The fat complex is a nice addition, though the evidence for the effectiveness of Raspberry ketones is a subject of debate at the moment. But they won’t do any harm, and if they do work then that’s awesome.

RSP Nutrition: ReGen BCAA

The main Ingredients are BCAAs 2:1:1 (6000mg), Citrulline Mallate, Raw Coconut water, Black pepper extract, and coconut water concentrate.

Just like Kris Gethin’s product, ReGen BCAA contains Coconut water powder which is a great way to re-hydrate. There is also the Black Pepper Extract that may boost metabolism and fat loss, and the usual BCAAs. This is a very nice intra-workout and perfect for any budding athletes out there.
