Some tubs you pick up and you know. This one has David on the front, sling in hand, staring down the giant.
That is not a mood board. That is a warning label.
David vs Goliath comes from the same people who made Deliverance, which I reviewed a while back and genuinely loved.
Deliverance was mood elevation, positive energy, head buzz, the kind of pre workout that makes the music sound better. A lot of you watched that review and said the same thing: great formula, but what if it had more energy? What if it hit like a real stim junkie pre workout?
You got it. This is the answer. And it is not the same personality at all.
As always, I ran this three times before I read a single line of the label. One workout tells you nothing. I want to see if it repeats. Then I read the panel and check whether the experience actually matches what they claim is in there. Most of the time it does not. This time it did.
20 servings, 18 gram scoops. Here is what is on the panel:

So you are looking at roughly 450mg of total caffeine across two sources, DMHA and Juglans Regia stacked together, synephrine, and 3mg of alpha yohimbine.
That DMHA plus Juglans Regia plus caffeine combination is the classic stim junkie package. That is where this industry started, and if brands can keep sourcing quality versions of these ingredients, that is where it continues. The ingredients themselves are only half of it. Quality matters more than the number on the label.
Labels are just labels. But I will say this one made sense to me before I even finished reading it, because I had already guessed most of it from the workouts.
Fifteen minutes. That is it. The beta alanine tingling, the alpha yo, the energy, all of it arrives together and lands at once. There is no ramp. You go from normal to needing to be under a barbell.
Honestly the wave came in so fast that I barely registered the beta alanine tingling as a separate thing. Usually 4.5g announces itself. Here the energy just steamrolled over the top of it.
This is the part where I have to be careful with my words, because this one goes hard.
It hits so fast and so strong that you start praying it does not get any stronger. You are hoping it holds steady right where it is, because a click past this and you are in full survival mode. It does get your heart rate up. Not to the point where you think you are dying, but you know something is happening.
I got dizzy coming off sets three separate times. Had to stand still and let it pass. That is not a complaint, that is a description. That is what a real stim junkie pre workout feels like when it is done right.
And it lasts. The energy carried me through an hour and a half of training and I was still feeling it two hours later.
Here is the difference between this and its older brother.
Deliverance is dancing. Deliverance is euphoric, positive, the music hits different, you are having a great time. David vs Goliath is angry. This puts you in angry lifting mode.
I had Rob Bailey’s “Beast” on repeat and I felt like one. This is not the fun kind of stim high. This is motivation to go drop set after drop set, to think violent thoughts about the weights, to fight the giant. The energy is physical and aggressive, not cerebral and pleasant.
The alpha yo is a real presence and you feel it. But here is the interesting part: I guessed 2.5mg during my workouts. The label says 3mg. Three milligrams of alpha yohimbine can absolutely put you in the corner in survival mode wanting to die, and this one does not do that. It feels like 2.5mg. That is a compliment. It means whatever they did with the formulation, they landed it exactly on the money instead of overshooting for the sake of the panel.
Blue Raspberry. Slight aftertaste, nothing offensive. Take it with a small amount of water and drink it fast. Chew a piece of gum afterward if you are that sensitive.
And really, David walked out to fight an eight foot giant with a rock. You are worried about flavor notes.
David vs Goliath is a legitimate stim junkie pre workout. Not intermediate. Not “advanced beginner.” This is for people who live in this space and know what they are signing up for.
If you are new to pre workouts, or you got nervous reading 550mg of caffeine and 3mg of alpha yohimbine, this is not your tub. Nothing wrong with that. Go get an everyday formula and enjoy your life.
If you are a stim junkie, this brand came out of nowhere and delivered twice. My recommendation is to run both. Buy Deliverance and David vs Goliath together and alternate. Deliverance on the days you want mood elevation and good vibes. David vs Goliath on the days you want to be angry.
Do not take this one every day. It will burn you down. Nothing this strong survives daily use, and neither will you.
Pun fully intended: they delivered.
